Do I have to export every time i backtest?

Post by shayz14 »

Hi everyone

I've exported some forex data to my mt4 plan to test an EA, using "Export to MT4 "options, however it seems that on my platform when i want to test a period which i've already export to mt4 in the past, the backtest doesn't seem to start at the period chosen unless I open tickstory again and export to mt4.

Not sure if i've explained correctly but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Shayz14,

You should only need to export data once and then you can commence testing (as many times as required). Would you have the exact set of steps that you are performing so we can identify the issue?

Thank you.

Hi Shaylz14,

Looking at the Tickstory logs, it looks like some of the latest information wasn't there at the time of download.
We recommend you use the Tickstory "Data Inspector" to view the last few days to make sure it is there. This will discount the possibility that something isn't working on the MT4 side. Once you confirm the information is there in Tickstory, please re-export your entire date range and please check again in MT4.

Thanks.

hi, it still isn't working, for example i wanted to test the last month from 27/04/20 to 27/05/20
used export to mt4, but the tested stopped at 20/05/2020

I have clicked on the currency pair and chose "show data" then chose the dates i wanted, and pressed request before importing to mt4

but still no luck

Hi Shayz14,

Could you please clarify each of the following:

1) Does the data for 21/5/20 -> 27/05/20 show in Tickstory's "Data Inspector"?
2) Does the same range of data appear in MT4 when you look at Tools->History Center->Symbol(eg.EURUSD)->M1 ?
3) If yes to both questions, please select the MACD Sample EA, uncheck the "Use Dates" checkbox and perform a test. Does it run through all the dates past the 20th May?
4) If all of the above steps work, it means that your EA is stopping the back-test early and you will need to check the Journal for more information about why.

If one of the above-mentioned steps is unsuccessful, could you please give us more details/screenshots of what you are seeing?

Thanks.
